What is this study about?
We are conducting surveys to learn about the experiences of people like you who
have gone through the
INTEGRATED DISABILITY EVALUATION SYSTEM (or
IDES)
program due to a wound, injury, or illness. Depending on where you are in the IDES
program, you may be asked to complete the MEB survey, or the PEB survey.
The Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) phase starts when you are referred into the IDES
by your physician/provider and ends with your return to duty or referral to the
Physical Evaluation Board (PEB).
The PEB phase starts when your MEB Phase comes to an end. The PEB starts with the
Informal Physical Evaluation Board (IPEB) (or fitness determination), and moves
through the VA proposed rating, the VA rating reconsideration (if any), the Formal
PEB (FPEB) (if any), and the final determination of your separation benefits, disability
retirement benefits, or your return to duty (as applicable to your situation).
How long will the survey take?
The survey will take approximately five minutes.
Why should I participate?
We survey Service members in the IDES in order to get their feedback on the quality
and capabilities of the program. We use that information to improve the IDES process.
We sincerely hope you will participate. Your feedback is vital to our effort to
continue to improve the system.
How did I get selected for the study?
Your name was provided to us from a DoD/VA database of participants that are enrolled
in the Integrated Disability Evaluation System (or IDES) program.
What are you going to do with the information I give you?
Your information will be combined with survey information received from other Service
members in the study. This survey information will be combined with information
collected from other sources about the Integrated Disability Evaluation (or IDES)
program to evaluate and improve the IDES process.
Does this survey have OMB approval?
This survey does not require OMB approval.
How do I know you will keep this information confidential?
We are required by law not to reveal any information other than to persons directly
involved with the study. None of the survey results include personally identifiable
information. Survey results will be published only as statistical totals. No information
will be released or published that would permit the identification of any individual.
Who is conducting the survey?
The Office of Health Services Policy and Oversight (HSP&O) has contracted with Advanced
Survey Design, LLC (ASD), a service-disabled Veteran-owned small business, to program
and support the web-based IDES Service member survey. ASD has supported DoD on
many surveys. For additional information, you can visit:
